Repointing

Repointing is the repair of existing pointing, requiring removal of the damaged material, and refilling with a new mortar mix. Mortar can be damaged by the action of various agencies and will usually be the first element to fail and as the wall become damp/exposed to heavy frosts, this will likely cause mortar to expand and crumble. Movement in a building due to settlement can cause pressures which generate cracks within the mortar joint. We therefore recommend that repointing is necessary where mortar is failing before the damage gets worse.
